With the winter months starting to get cold, we needed to find the kids a new activity. So much of our time has been spent on outside activities, that we were starting to get cabin fever now that its too cold to do things outside. One activity we found to be fun & affordable are sibling tumble classes at the local JW Tumbles. We started with trial classes purchased from Living Social, the loose structure is conducive to a toddler’s attention span and the 45 minute length is just enough. What is perfect for us is their siblings class,’it has activities for both our 22 month old and four month old and only requires one of us to attend. Since I am working most Saturdays, it’s usually my wife with the two kids. When I am off I either let her take the morning to herself or the four of us go for some family fun.
The class consists of the opening circle where we stretch and everyone goes around and says their names. Next are the age appropriate physical activities, which includes log rolls, soccer kicks, summersaults baby bouncing and tummy time. Next come the swings, a variety of swings are suspended from hooks in the ceiling and the kids practice taking turns on the swing. For some mental stimulation, blocks are introduced for building, which also promotes sharing and working together.
New toys are introduced about every five minutes and different ones are used in each class to keep the kids interested. We like going so much, we booked our daughter’s second birthday party there. They provide a cake, the kids food, paper goods, decorations and of course the entertainment. The price for the classes is pretty fair, you pay either for the entire session or by month. They also have open gym hours for members throughout the week.
What are some other good activities for young kids that only require one parent? What other activities have sibling classes?

January 10, 2013 at 9:35 amI can’t think of any activities that actually require both parents. As for activities that have sibling classes, that’s pretty area specific. Some music classes might be fun for siblings to attend, but age factors in. Dance is also a good one for youngsters. A couple of my kids took Aikido for a while as well.

January 19, 2013 at 11:21 pmMusic classes are a fantastic idea. We took our daughter to a few back when she was real young and we kind of forgot about them. She loved the class, but came home with a lot of noise makers. I am going to look into that right now.

January 19, 2013 at 11:23 pmMusic is missing from education these days so I think it is instrumental to get them into some sort of music program at a young age

January 19, 2013 at 11:24 pmWe actually watch Married with children every now and then when I can get Toy Story off for a few hours. My daughter loves Al, she dances when he comes on the screen.
